HER Docs Festival Program Revealed!
Unforgettable protagonists, filmmakers searching for their own language, and herstories that can make us laugh, move us, and maybe even turn a few things upside down. Take a look at what you’ll be able to see at this year’s HER Docs Film Festival, taking place on October 1-6 in Warsaw.
This year’s program features ten of the latest feature-length films, three short film programmes presented as part of the Showcase section, and the special section ANOTHER STORY, which revisits the work of European women filmmakers from cinema history.
We’ll talk about work, menopause, women’s health and the body, growing up, identity, memory, friendship and self-acceptance. We’ll explore the stories of women standing up to patriarchy and state oppression, and look at how popular culture has turned Frida Kahlo into a global icon and brand. This year’s filmmakers take us to India, Iran, Uganda, Mexico and many other places, offering cinema that isn’t afraid to experiment with form. You will be able to watch empowering films: from personal stories and intimate archives, through powerful tales of rebellion and activism, to films that surprise us with humour and an engaged perspective on things we thought we already knew.
It’s about the personal and the political, the visible and the repressed, experiences we recognise from our own lives and those we may never have had the chance to see on screen before. Formally, the programme brings together documentary, experimental film, archival footage, theatre, fiction, and stories that resist simple categorisation.
