    During the Cold War, students from the Global South came to Poland to study at the Łódź Film School. Years later, Sylwia—the daughter of a Polish mother and a Nigerian father—traces fragments of her own history through the films made there at the time. Her personal voice intertwines with archival images, creating a poetic story of memory, identity, and a body suspended between two worlds.

    Klaudia Szott

    Klaudia Szott is a film director, independent researcher, and performer. She studies directing at the Łódź Film School and previously completed a Master’s degree at the Faculty of Artes Liberales at the University of Warsaw. She hosts a programme on Radio Kapitał. Her artistic work draws on queer erotics and postcolonial theory.

    Zuzanna Solakiewicz

    Zuzanna Solakiewicz is a director, screenwriter and editor, a member of the Polish and European Film Academies and a graduate of Berlinale Talents and EAVE. Her debut 15 Corners of the World won the Critics’ Week Award in Locarno. Her film The Guest received the IDFA Award for Best Cinematography and a nomination for the 2026 Polish Film Awards. She also edited The 8th Day of Chamsin, nominated for the 2025 Polish Film Awards.

    Ewa Japola

    A graduate of Directing from the Łódź Film School, which she entered immediately after high school. She has been achieving festival success with her films since the age of 14. Her work has been screened at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia, New Horizons and nearly 40 other festivals worldwide. She is a recipient of a scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the “30 Minutes” programme at Munk Studio.

    The film explores the boundaries between human and animal perception in order to demonstrate that the “self” is a construct resulting from the way an organism interprets light and stimuli. Who we are depends on how we perceive the world.

    “The Promise of a Quick Death in the Shrimp Valley” is an experimental film whose imagery is based on archival materials depicting both microscopic images of animals’ digestive systems and the presumed vision of a mantis shrimp. The film explores the boundaries between human and animal perception in order to demonstrate that the “self” is a construct resulting from the way an organism interprets light and stimuli. Who we are depends on how we perceive the world.

    Zuzanna Orch is a Polish artist, filmmaker and screenwriter studying Experimental Film at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts in Poznań. She experiments with the relationship between image and sound, drawing inspiration from liminal spaces and synesthesia. Through rhythmic editing and wordplay, her films explore sensory memory, creating worlds on the borderline between reality and dream.
