Hotel Royal
A chambermaid in a seaside hotel observes the traces of strangers’ lives with meticulous detachment, until an unexpected disruption shatters her carefully controlled ritual and exposes the unsettling desires and loneliness hidden behind closed doors.
Hotel Royal is a fragmented and incomplete mosaic of contemporary societies. It could be dubbed a film about the horrors of the soul, about voyeurs, or simply about misfits. ‘In the course of my cleaning duties, I examined the belongings of each guest of the hotel and observed, through the details, lives that will remain unknown’, says the temporary Chambermaid in a large seaside hotel, which, unable to communicate, lives through a rigid methodology of analysis of the exterior and a ritualized quotidian. Until the uncontrollable comes to disrupt this dynamic.

Salomé Lamas
Salomé Lamas – studied cinema in Lisbon and Prague and visual arts in Amsterdam. She is a PhD candidate in contemporary art studies in Coimbra. Her work has been presented at major festivals and art institutions, including Berlinale, MoMA, Tate Modern, Museo Reina Sofía, Guggenheim Bilbao, and CPH. She has received numerous fellowships, including from Harvard University, the Rockefeller Foundation, and DAAD.
