This is not the film history you know. It’s documentary cinema shaped by women filmmakers—films that don’t just record reality, but press on it until it shifts.
ANOTHER STORY invites audiences to discover films by women directors at four European festivals and online. Moving between intimate domestic spaces and the structures of institutional power, the programme traces gestures of resistance, confronts social taboos, and lingers on the politics embedded in everyday life. As diverse in form as in subject, the films stretch the boundaries of documentary itself. Told in a poetic, risk-taking language—at times blurring documentary and fiction, at others embracing the experimental—they are formally inventive, politically sharp, and emotionally precise. Still urgent now.
The mission of ANOTHER STORY is to enhance the visibility, accessibility, and circulation of overlooked works by women filmmakers, spark curiosity, encourage dialogue, and share their artistic visions and cultural contributions. By reconnecting with the legacy of pioneering women in film, the project aims to inspire future generations of documentary creators while contributing to a collective pan-European effort to reshape film history through education, participation, and rediscovery.
ANOTHER STORY is a two-year collaboration between five European partners: HER Docs Foundation (Poland), Festival dei Popoli (Italy), The Good Media Network / Doxumentale (Germany), Balkan Documentary Center / Sofia DocuMental (Bulgaria) and Cineuropa (Belgium).

Project Partners
HER Docs Foundation
The mission of the HER Docs Foundation is to popularize documentary films made by women, promote women’s creativity, and support and empower women and girls. Through its activities—the HER Docs Film Festival and the HER Docs Forum—the Foundation aims to contribute to the fight for equal access and opportunities, not only in the film industry but also in civil society as a whole. Through the power of visual (her)story, it seeks to inspire and initiate social change.
Festival Dei Popoli – Instituto Italiano Per Il Film Di Documentazione Sociale
Founded in 1959, Festival dei Popoli Institute is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion, study and dissemination of documentary cinema. Based in Florence, it organizes Festival dei Popoli, the most important international documentary film festival in Italy and the oldest in Europe. Over more than sixty years, the Institute has fostered dialogue between cinema and other fields of knowledge, developed an extensive network of collaborations in Italy and abroad, preserved a film archive of over 25,000 titles, and promoted educational and training activities related to documentary culture.
The Good Media Network
The Good Media Network is dedicated to championing outstanding films and storytelling initiatives that help shape a more just, sustainable, and enchanting world. Through Doxumentale International Documentary and Media Festival Berlin the Network works to amplify the visibility and reach of documentary formats in Germany’s capital.
Balkan Documentary Center
Since 2010 Balkan Documentary Center (BDC) has established itself among the main facilitators for the documentary scene by providing high-profile training, expert support and networking possibilities for a wide range of professionals. BDC has been recognized as the innovative link between the Balkan region and the rest of Europe. It is a physical space, a historical building in downtown Sofia, and a virtual network and support system for the documentary sector that is filling a painful niche for fruitful collaborations based on daring stories and unapologetic talent.
Cineuropa
Cineuropa as Europe’s leading informative audiovisual platform, ensures the consortium’s outreach far beyond film circles. By connecting professionals and audiences across the continent through daily news, interviews, and in-depth coverage, Cineuropa will help amplify the project’s discoveries, debates, and films to a broad international audience, from the general public and professionals alike.

Loreley Films
Loreley Film Association seeks to rediscover filmmakers belonging to underrepresented groups, especially women whose work has been forgotten over the years. Its mission is to bring their features, whose value has failed to be noticed by their contemporaries or has progressively fallen into oblivion, back to the silver screen, in order to give the opportunity to both culture professionals and the general public to (re)discover them with the eyes of the present. Through a variety of projects and activities, Loreley Films intends to revive films and artists of the 20th and 21st century, hoping to initiate a dialogue between the past and the present as well as encourage a wider discussion on forgotten artworks. The association is of public utility and acts without profit-making purpose.
